Annual Tournament
The First Stratford District Short Mat Bowls Tournament was
organised by Stratford-upon-Avon District Council and took place
at Stratford Leisure & Visitor Centre on 17 June 1997. The day
was a great success, with 12 teams taking part in friendly competition.

The Ettington Team
|
On the day of the competition the overall winners were Ettington
and the runner up team was Lighthorne Heath. The profile of
the event was heightened by the appearance of Bob Weafer of
the English Short Mat Bowls Association, who offered advice
and coaching tips throughout the day.

The Snitterfield Team
|
Chairman of SDC presented the trophies. The Second Stratford
District Short Mat Bowls Tournament was again organised by Stratford
on Avon District Council and took place at Stratford Leisure
& Visitor Centre on 06 June 1998. 11 Teams took part in friendly
competition and Salford Priors took the winners shield. Ettington
was runner up.

|
Stratford District Council worked with no fewer than 13 groups
in South Warwickshire by providing equipment (bowls, mats, fenders)
on loan; helping towards facility costs over an agreed period,
helping with coaching costs; poster and leaflet production,
and where applicable, helping clubs to apply for a revenue grant.

The Knightcote Team

Following the initial help and support from the District Council,
most of those groups became self sufficient and now have their
own equipment.

The Snipes Team
|
The Third Stratford District Short Mat Bowls Tournament was
organised by the league committee in conjunction with SDC and
held at Stratford High School Sports Centre on 25 April 1999.
23 Teams took part with Knightcote; the most recently formed
Club, defeating Ettington in the final.

Chairman Cllr. Simpson presented tournament & league winners
and runners up with trophies.
The Fourth Stratford District Short Mat Bowls Tournament took
place at Stratford High School Sports Centre on Sunday, 16
April 2000. For the first time a knockout tournament was added
to the day. A record number of teams took part as more and
more clubs are forming in the district as the popularity of
short mat bowling continues to grow. Announcement of the winner
of the 1999/2000 league season is eagerly awaited on the day.
19 Teams took part with Salford Priors defeating Ettington
in the final. Knightcote were the knockout winners.
Cllr. Keith Lambert, chairman of SDC presented the trophies.
The Fifth Annual Stratford District Short Mat Bowls Tournament
took place at Stratford High School Sports Centre on Sunday,
29 April 2001.

This years Tournament took place at Stratford Leisure & Visitor
Centre on Sunday, 21 April 2002.

by a party of Japanese visitors, presented the trophies.

This was our first event to take place in the new Stratford
High school complex.
